FAQ

Questions before you reserve

Does my person need to be good with tech?

No. Once it's set up, there's nothing for them to do. Their wall lights up when you send a glow. A glow stays lit until they tap to clear it, which is handy for reminders you don't want them to miss. If they want to send one back, it's one tap.

Do we need to be on the same Wi-Fi?

No. Each strip uses its own home Wi-Fi, so you can be in different cities, states, or time zones. Lumen needs a 2.4 GHz network, which almost every home router provides.

What if they're asleep when I send one?

They can set quiet hours or switch on Do Not Disturb. Glows that arrive then wait in the app instead of lighting up the room. They won't light up later either, so nobody wakes up to a room full of messages when quiet hours end.

Does my friend need a Lumen too?

To glow each other, yes. That's why the Duo exists. A Single is for joining someone who already has one, or for charms and reminders in your own room.

Can the two halves of a Duo ship to different homes?

Yes. At checkout, add a second address and we'll ship one Lumen to you and the other straight to your person. No need to buy two Singles or mail anything yourself.

Is there a subscription?

No. The app, friends, glows, charms, and updates are included. We may add optional extras later, but nothing you buy today gets taken away.

What do I need on my phone?

An iPhone running iOS 17 or later, with Wi-Fi. Android app is planned for 2027.

Does Lumen work with Android?

Not yet, but it's on the way. We're launching on iPhone first so we can get every detail right, and our Android app is in the works for 2027. On Android? Reserve now and we'll keep you posted.

Can I use it as a normal light strip?

Yes. Colors, effects, music mode, schedules, brightness. It's a great strip even if you never add a friend.

Our story

Miles apart. Still close.

We're Cederic and Dannica, a brother and sister who moved from San Diego to Arizona, leaving friends and family behind. We wanted a silly way to stay close to them, so we built Lumen. Now we have charms scattered around our homes, and we send little messages back and forth that light up the room.

Bonus: we finally take the trash out on time. It's hard to ignore a reminder when your room lights up.
